jenny5488: Fashion Designer - Handbag, Jewelry, Belts, and BraceletsHey, check this site olalaonline.com. I got handbags here and they were so cheap and really great looking too. They said I could return them after 180 days too, for whatever reason. The best part is the free gifts. I love freebies and this one had so many earrings that I could earn for free. http://www.olalaonline.com

Regional Qualifiers

What better way to kick off my first post on our Athletic.net site than to recognize Jets or former Jets who qualified for next week’s OHSAA Regional championships.   All totaled we have 20 athletes advancing in 36 events and four Regional Champions; Courtney Armsey in the 300 hurdles, Jada Henderson in the 400m, Marina Capuano in the 400m and 4 x800m relay and Melissa Wohlheter in the 100m and 300m Hurdles.

Coming out of the Ravenna District I have to give a special shout out to my Hoban guys who also qualified for the Division I Regional in Amherst next week: Dan Solomon, Rasheed Moore, Evan Luse and Lawrence Wynn in the 4 x200, Chris Sarkis, Pat Kramer, Jake Craine, Joe Easton in the 300 Hurdles and long jump and Chase Harshbarger in the 4 x400 and 800m run.

Good luck Jets and Knights next week.  Let’s get out! Get up! And Get BUSY!

2007 Award Program

  • Mood:

This pasted Sunday we had our Annual Awards Program.  As I said in my last post, this has been an interesting season to say the least.   Our season began with our winter indoor conditioning program ended abruptly after only 2 weeks when the roof collapsed at the SportsDome and ended on a cold and rainy day that seemed more like late autumn than the 3rd week of August.

Every season the selection for our team awards gets harder and harder.  But the kids voted and I think they got it right.  We had several athletes score over 100 individual points, with Tiffany Strayer being this season high point athlete with 170, followed by Katrina Rettburg’s 124, JaSmyn Martin 104 and Robyn Umbles with 102.  We had 2 athletes make honorable mention All-American, Tiffany Strayer in the hepthalon and long jump and Andy Moore in the 400 Intermediate hurdles. We had 2 national qualifiers, Andy Moore(400 IH) and Gabe Sciarretti in the 3000 meter run – keeping our string of national qualifiers at 19 out of 21 years we’ve been coaching.  Overall 2007 was another fine season for the Flight101 Jets Track and Field Club.

Based on the voting by their fellow athletes, this years team awards went to:

  • Rookie of the Year            Katrina Rettburg and Luther Anderson
  • Most Improved                 Robyn Umbles and Anthony Rienhard
  • Most Valuable Athlete     JaSmyn Martin and Andy Moore

The great thing about most of our award winners is that they are all at the bottom of their age group and we look forward to them having and even better season next year.    Our older kids are already starting to get noticed by college recruiters and we’re sure that all of our kids are going to have a great school year and spring track season.

Last but not least, we also recognized those athletes on the team that did well in the classroom last school year.   Our 2007 High Flying Scholars, with a grade point average of 3.0 or better were, Zaria Jones, Taylor Thompkins, JaSmyn Martin, Michael Sommers, Gabe Sciarretti, Jazmine Sommers, Anthony Rienhard, Justin Trawick and Andy Moore.

Finally, we have to mention our littlest Jet and diva, Serena Sommers, she was dressed to impress at the awards program – You go girl!

Again, a special thank you to my wife Tiwatha and Mrs. Connie Williams for putting together this years program, to Coach Trawick for helping us out again this year and to you parents for supporting your youngsters and allowing us to work with them.

Look forward to seeing you guys next Spring!

2007 Flight101 Jets Season

I can't help but think that nothing could be more appropriate than my first post being a summary of the 2007 Flight101 Jets Season.   Boy what a roller coaster ride!.

We had a number of outstanding performances this season. We established or broke14 club records.  We had outstanding performances  turned in by first year runners like Spenzer Hunter, Zaria Jones, Taylor Thompkins and Jazmine Sommers.  We had a quartet of high school girls (Brittany Williams. Katrina Rettburg, Robyn Umbles and Tiffaney Strayer,  3 young men (Anthony Rienhard, Luther Anderson and Andy Moore)  join us all of whom show tremendous potential in the sport and we look forward to working with them next season and in the future.  We had 3 District Champions and 2 AAU National qualifiers.

On the downside, we had a number of our more elite performers either out with injuries, joined us late in the season and never rounded into competitive shape or couldn't run at all because of other obligations.  April McPherson, one of last year's national qualifiers couldn't finish the season because her soccer team qualified for their National Championships and we missed her contribution to the team.  Congratulations to April and her Ohio Premeir Soccer Club on a fine season.

On the positive side, we were able to get our website back up and functional and our FlightGear On-Line Store is fully stocked and ready for business!  Additionally, two of our alum, Cherrelle Montgomery and Ashley Spencer have gone on to bigger and better things on and off the track.  Cherrelle, a national qualifier to Miami in 2002, is finishing up at Barton Community College and will be competing for the Lady Vols at the University of Tennesse this fall.  Ashley Spenser, national qualifer 2001, was the runner-up on the hit TV show - Grease, You Are the One That I Want!  and is currently making her mark on Broadway.

Finnaly, we were officially adopted as a Youth Program for the Stark County Out of Poverty Partnership, Inc. (SCOPP) a non-profit community development corporation based in Canton OH.  This affiliation will assist us in fund raising and the operations of the program.

On Sunday the 19th we will be having our Annual Picnic and Awards Program and I'll be posting this years award winners along with pics from the party.

Hope all is well and that your week is a good one.

From the Flight  Deck,

Peace

Coach M
